| Bio: | Her given name means "bright pearl above all," and her parents did all they could to polish and protect their precious jewel. Marian grew up surrounded by the best that money could buy. She was sent to the finest schools and enjoyed all the advantages that a girl of her station could have: dancing and riding lessons, trips abroad and an automatic "in" to the best parties. Marian was expected to become a wife, mother and society hostess - a credit to her father, a high-ranking officer of OzCorp, and to the man her parents would hand-pick to become her husband and master. She was no fool, however, and this brightest of pearls quickly realized that there was more to life than the perfumed jewel box her parents had built around her. While the good life was indeed enjoyable, the neverending rounds of parties were monotonous and meaningless. None of her suitors - especially those her father pressed upon her - were acceptable. And there were so many in the City who needed help even just staying alive. So of the three things Marian was expected to become, she became only one, and that was because her mother died (disappointed that she did not become a grandmother in this life, not that she would ever show it) and her father needed someone suitable to help entertain his business cronies. Today, Marian senses she is not the precious jewel that she used to be. Although she continues to help boost his image by being a competent society hostess and doing charity work in the City, she is nevertheless a spinster daughter, unable to fulfill her ultimate duties to her family: make an advatangeous marriage and bear children who would carry the Gao line into future generations.
